Dolly Parton is proving she’s nowhere near slowing down.
The country music icon has announced that her brand new musical, DOLLY: A True Original Musical, is officially heading to Broadway later this year.
After a sold-out run in Nashville, the production will open at New York’s iconic St. James Theatre, with previews beginning on December 7th before officially opening on January 19 which also happens to be Dolly’s 81st birthday.

The show promises to tell the incredible story of Dolly’s rise from humble beginnings in the Mountains of Tennessee to becoming one of the biggest music stars in the world.
But this won’t just be a greatest hits show.
Alongside fan favourites like Jolene and 9 to 5, Dolly has written a collection of brand-new songs especially for the production.

Announcing the exciting news, the singer said: “This isn’t a story about sparkle and shine on the outside. It’s about where I really come from, what I’ve lived, what I’ve lost, what I’ve loved and how I’ve found my way.”

She added that bringing her life to Broadway is a “dream come true” and said she can’t wait for fans to finally see it.
The announcement comes as Dolly continues to recover from recent health issues.
Earlier this year, the 80-year-old admitted she has been undergoing treatment and said some of the medication has left her feeling “swimmy headed”, meaning she’s not quite ready to return to performing on stage herself.

Despite that, Dolly reassured fans she’s making good progress.
