A South West TD has been giving his two cents on what it would look like if there was a crossover between the Dail and Love Island.

Michael Healy-Rae has discussing the possibility of holding a similar show in the Dail bar, and matching up some of the TDs either romantically, politically or 'whatever tickles your fancy'.

It comes after a Q and A on Instagram stories last night, where he revealed he had no idea what Love Island was about.

This morning, the Kerry TD joined Fully Charged with Ed and Meghann where he said he had since been made aware of the concept of the show and then came up with this absolute goldmine of an idea.

Dubbing the show 'Love Ireland', he even chipped in with some suggestions of potential TD's he would match together:

"When I think of [Tipperary TD] Mattie McGrath," he said, "Mattie McGrath is a great deputy, as you know, so what about if we matched him up with [Sinn Fein President] Mary Lou McDonald, for instance."

He then suggests the coupling up of former Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams, with Ruth Coppinger of Solidarty.

The Independent deputy then asked Ed and Meghann about some of their suggestions, with one potential 'practical' couple for Mr Healy-Rae himself.

Ed threw out the possibility of Michael Healy-Rae and Independent MEP Luke 'Ming' Flanagan pairing up in a working capacity, to which Healy-Rae responded:

"Let's put it this way, I would have hoped you would have teamed me with somebody else.

"No offence to Luke, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind me declining the offer."

The potential matches didn't stop there however, as Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin was next to be discussed:

Of course, with Michael Healy-Rae's new found knowledge of Love Island, Ed and Meghann couldn't let him go without getting him to sign off with one of the show's most well-known sayings - "I've got a teeeeext!"

So there you have it, Michael Healy-Rae has shouted 'I've got a text' at the top of his voice on the radio.

Be sure to tune into Fully Charged with Ed and Meghann from 6:45 Monday to Friday on SPIN South West
