The US government have changed the rules for J1 visas. Any students hoping to go to the United States next year will have to have jobs secured before they travel.

The new rules will also affect travel within America for students who do get jobs before travelling over, limiting their chances to see other parts of the country.

The Foreign Affairs Minister says he's concerned about changes to the J1. Charlie Flanagan says that it could mean many people won't get the chance to take part in the visa programme.

More than 8,000 Irish students travelled to America this year on the programme, which began in 1961.
