The government has approved legislation aimed at tackling ticket touts.

The proposed new laws would ban the above face value re-sale of tickets for large concerts and sporting events.

It would also outlaw the use of bot software to buy tickets en-masse for potential re-sale. It is partly to deal with rules from UEFA ahead of Euro 2020.

Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys, says there will be sanctions for those caught breaking the law:

"What will happen is that a person will be breaking the law if they sell a ticket about face value and the Gardaí will have the power to arrest them and they will be liable upon conviction to a fine of up to €5,000."
