This month’s Grammy Awards may be delayed due to the current covid surge.

According to multiple sources, the Recording Academy is probably going to delay the 64th annual Grammy Awards.

A source with direct knowledge told Billboard that it's now “looking likely,” that the music ceremony will be delayed.

Meaning this could be the 2nd year in a row that the Grammys have been postponed because of COVID-19.

Possible Grammy Awards Delay

If the Grammy Awards are delayed, it will be the second year in a row that they have been postponed. Last year’s show was originally set for January 31 but was pushed back to March 14 due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in LA.

The show is due to be held at the Crypto.com Arena, formally the Staple Center in Los Angeles.

It's understood that The Recording Academy would prefer to delay the event to host it in a full capacity arena, due to the ticket revenue.

Obviously, they would have forego this if they hosted a smaller version of the world-famous music awards, as they did in 2021.

According to Billboard, a Recording Academy spokesman emphasised that no decision has been made and urged caution against speculation.

Grammy Nods

This year’s Grammy Award nominations were announced late last year on November 23, 2021.

Band leader of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jon Batiste is the top nominee with 11 nods. He's closly followed by Doja Cat, H.E.R., and Justin Bieber with eight nominations each.

Billie Eilish and 2021 breakout star Olivia Rodrigo are tied on 7 nominations.

This year marks the first time that the Grammys have had 10 nominees in each of their Big Four categories. That’s album, record and song of the year plus best new artist.

In November last year, all the Grammy Nominations were announced and SPIN had the full load down.
