A man has been shot by police outside the cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris. It's after he reportedly tried to attack an officer using a hammer.

Police in Paris have taken to Twitter to say the situation is now under control but a policeman has been wounded.

They say around 900 people who are still inside the Cathedral will be gradually cleared.

French media report the suspect was also wounded in the chest.

People are being urged to stay away from the area until further notice.
