A man is fighting for his life in hospital in Limerick after he was attacked in Ennis overnight.
Gardaí believe the man was walking with friends in The Height area of the town when they were attacked by another group.
The man picked up a head injury and is now in a critical condition at the Mid Western Regional Hospital.
Two men in their 20s are being questioned about the assault at Ennis Garda station.
The scene has been closed for a technical exam and Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses.
