In a now deleted tweet, Cadbury replied that it was “pronounced as crem”.
Twitter users were quick to comment on the controversial ruling.
Looks like we missed out the ‘a’ there! Most definitely pronounced as ‘Cream’ egg! 😁— Cadbury UK (@CadburyUK) February 20, 2018
We say Creme Caramel, Creme Fraiche and Creme Brulee. Why did we ever think it was pronounced Cream Egg?! I mean I'm still gonna say it like that. pic.twitter.com/qQjHFCrKAk— Beth Cunniffe (@BethCunniffe) February 20, 2018
The Creme in Creme Egg is, and has always been, pronounced as "cream". This isn't a "scon" or "scone" argument, it's cream. I will fight anyone over this.— Robbie (@robbieg_15) February 20, 2018
can't believe it's pronounced dairy malk— Mollie Goodfellow (@hansmollman) February 21, 2018
A Cadbury spokeswoman said: "“Oooops! We have egg on our face. Creme Egg is of course pronounced Cream, the error has now been corrected on our twitter”
It appears the Internet has spoken.
