United And Spurs Through To Last 16


Manchester Utd, and Tottenham both sealed their places in the last 16 of the Champions league last night.

Wayne Rooney’s late penalty was enough for United to beat Rangers 1-0 at Ibrox.

They’re joined in the knockout stages from Group E, by Valencia, who hammered Turkish side Bursaspor 6-1 at the Mestalla.

And, Tottenham advanced from Group A after seeing off Werder Bremen 3-0.
Younes Kaboul, Luca Modric and Peter Crouch with the goals at White Hart Lane.

In the group’s other game, defending champions Inter Milan progressed thanks to a 1-0 win at home to FC Twente.

Elsewhere;

Schalke had a 3-0 home win over Lyon in Group B, but the French side qualify after Benfica lost 3-0 to Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel.

In Group D, Barcelona claimed top-spot with a 3-0 win over Panathinaikos in Greece.

Meanwhile, Rubin Kazan beat FC Copenhagen 1-0.
