The first episode of friends aired 22 years ago today (we can't believe it either) and since then Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey have taught us pretty much everything we need to know about life...

Here are just some of the lessons we took away from the 10 years of being obsessed with the show!

1. PIVOT

If you're helping friends bring furniture into their new apartment or home, don't forget to pivot!

2. KEEP YOUR COOL

Someone in work stealing your food? Remain calm and walk away! It's best not to deal with the situation when you're about to explode.

3. ACT SURPRISED

Even if you already know, they don't know that you know so act surprised anyway!

4. IT'S OK TO CORRECT BAD GRAMMAR

No matter who it is or where you are, it's always best to correct people when they make silly grammar mistakes. They'll thank you for it in the long run.

5. ALWAYS BE HONEST

If you can't think of an excuse, just be honest (your friends will know you're lying anyway).

6. LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE IS HARD

Whether it's Irish, French, German or Chinese, if it's not your native tongue it's going to be difficult. Stick with it!

7. DON'T BE AFRAID TO SHOW THE LOVE

If you have good friends, show them how much you care every once in a while. You never know, it might make their day.

8. STAYING IN IS JUST AS MUCH FUN AS GOING OUT

If you have good friends it doesn't matter where or how you spend the evening - it'll always be fun.

9. ALWAYS BE YOURSELF

True friends will appreciate your weirdness, it's what makes you...you.

10. NEVER COUNT MISSISSIPPILY

It's as easy as 1,2,3...don't complicate things!

Or you could end up like this...

11. IT'S GOOD TO GET CLOSURE

Walking away from something without getting closure will cause sleepless nights and may result in a situation like this.

12. SOME FRIENDS DON'T LIKE SHARING

They can be the best in the world but some friends just don't like sharing, especially when it comes to their food.

13. BE RESPECTFUL

If your friends are working late, studying or need some quiet time give them the space they need to avoid any fights.

14. STYLE CHANGES

Looking back on old photos is always going to make you cringe! Just embrace how much your style has evolved over the years and be thankful Facebook wasn't around back then.

15. POSITIVE VIBES ONLY

Think positive and positive things will happen.
